Miscellaneous Thoughts
DD51: Japanese Flower Hat Dancer

Today's drawing was done with a brush. I go back and forth between graphite and watercolor. Both are fun to work with. I used Prussian blue rather than the usual sepia to look at the difference in expression.
Moon Goddess – Happy Halloween
.jpg)
It's the "Moon Goddess" annual appearance on this blog. "Moon Goddess" was inspired by the long nosed bats of the Southwest and Mexico. They're plant pollinators. And they are much prettier than the photo on Wikipedia, but at least the information is OK/fine. If you'd like to see some great photos of bats, go to Bat Conservation International and look at their photo gallery. They have a lesser leaf nose bat pollinating a saguaro.
In my college days I had the honor to work with bats in the wild. They are wonderful, beautiful animals. OK, some of them have some pretty bizarre looking faces. But, how do we look to them? Their wings are amazingly soft and elastic. It was a joy working with them.
Speaking of bats, the only time I won a prize in a Halloween costume party was when I dressed up as a brown bat. Anyway, Happy Halloween!
Blog Award and KittyKitty #25
Thank you Ranjini Venkatachari, for the blog award! It’s an honor to be recognized by you. I’ll be passing it on in the near future. I love the colors and design of the award; cool!
In the meantime, I invite you in blogland to visit Ranjini’s blog, ranjini.wordpress.com/ . Ranjini was accepted into this year’s Colored Pencil Society’s "Explore This!" Experimental Colored Pencil Show, (congrats). She’s been in national shows before. What I like is how she experiments with the medium. The piece that was accepted included colored pencil and pastel on colorfix and it’s stunning, (see Ranjini’s 15 January entry).
I find it interesting that when I try to improve my work, I find myself resorting to reviewing the basics. I haven’t learned it all yet…as if I ever could. I have four red color studies in my studio of various KittyKitty designs. I recently took out my book by Stephen Quiller on color and am working through the exercises. And, red was the first exercise. I’m mixing the reds with pthalo green to get black for value. Oh, this is just to tantalize you. They’re not ready to post today, maybe tomorrow.
What is ready for today is KittyKitty drawing #25. Enjoy!
