251/365: Toy Pony and “Geta”

Today's drawings are about studying the angles and shapes of a pair of "Geta", Japanese wooden shoes. My pair are small, souvenir shoes that my sister gave me when she was an exchange student to Japan in the early '70s. To see the drawing below, please click on the thumbnail. Enjoy!

250/365: Toy Pony Time

Just a simple drawing today…but so much fun!
249/365: It’s All About the Water
September's theme for "Creative Every Day" is water. This is a perfect theme for someone who works or plays with watercolor….'cause it's all about the water. And the paint. And the paper. And the brushes. And the artist's vision. But, it's about the water.
Today's study of Toy Pony is definitely about the water….and the paint….and the design….but mostly about the magic of water. This is an exercise I found in Linda Kemp's book "Painting Outside the Lines". I don't want to give away "how to do it", because it's her exercise. And there's a couple of ways one might achieve the results. But, its the water that allow me to get the fun, diffuse colors. I'm going to try this again. Oh, no salt, no resist. Just paint and water.
Have a wonderful Labor Day. This is my labor and passion.

I'm altering the format of my blog to accomplish two things: faster loading time and, hopefully, better viewing. Just click on the thumbnail and a full size image will show. Thank you!
Today's studies "fun with composition". The top study was done working with three colors: hansa yellow, anthraquinode red and indanthrone blue. I was studying alternations of white and dark; positive and negative shapes. And, I was playing with establishing rhythms and patterns. It's all about practicing and getting ideas. I hope you enjoy today's studies.
