Blog Theme Designs
Thanks to the work of my husband, Robert, I have custom themes for my blog. Robert designs my themes and includes details from my paintings. I am delighted with the results and I hope you enjoy them. Periodically, the theme will change...just wait and see! Scroll to the bottom of the page to see what painting is featured in the theme.
Additional Websites
Another thanks to my husband Robert; I have two other websites: festiveabstracts.com (new paintings) and stermer-cox.com (gallery and events). Please stop by.

It's Blind Contour Friday and that means it's time to post my blind contour drawing — whoohoo!  I look forward to this.  I have been doing some blind contour drawings as warm-ups this week.  As usual, my drawing still looks a little wonky.  It's instructional.  I do contour drawings much like I did in 8th grade!  I'm not really so concerned about how they look; just whether or not I can "feel" the edges and contours with my eye as I look.  Today's posting is of MsKitty and my teapot.  I like my kitty "horns"; don't know exactly how the head ended up that way!  Enjoy!  And, click through to see the other blind contour drawings!

  • Great observation, Peggy, that you 'feel' the edges. I relate! It's tough to get my eye to slow down, which is what I tried to do at first. Now I'm trying to get my hand to speed up a little and it's helping me to feel things a bit more naturally, I think.
I think your kiity's legs are quite clear, and the spout and pot are good, too! Fun!

  • Peggy, I know just what you mean by 'feeling' the edges. The kitty's legs are quite clear, and the teapot's round belly and its spout are well expressed–I feel them, too!

  • Look at those sweet kitty feet – maybe it's wearing the horns for halloween?  :)

  • I'm finding a bit of a challenge to feel the lines with my eye. Great way to phrase the process.  I have known for a long time that my faulty drawings are the result of not really looking. I definitely need the practice.

  • I thought I left you a comment…..I said that I'm having a hard time feeling the edges and contours. But I've known for a long time that my faulty drawings are because I'm not really looking at what I'm drawing. I'm drawing what I think I see.  Hopefully the practice will help me. Love the way you phrased the process.

  • Hi Stephanie, Diahn and Deborah, Hmmm, I think there is something funny going on with my blog.  It looks like you had trouble posting.  I had trouble finding the comments.  Hopefully, this will go away!  Anyway, thank you for leaving the comments!  I think Deborah has something there.  It's that synchronizing hand and eye.  I think I speed up through places where there isn't a lot of contour, ie. the bottom of the teapot, and slow down through the interesting parts.  It's just really fun, though.  Stephanie, for me the important part is to feel and look.  I'm going to accept that it might look sort of funny — embracing the funny side!

I like the concept of kitty horns Diahn.

  • Glad to see you exploring on the 'edges' and 'contours'.

  • Hi Lay Hoon, Thank you; it fun and interesting work, isn’t it?

  • I love this — wonderful and round and solid!

  • Hi Linda, It’s a good exercise for me to do the contour drawings. I have to slow down to feel those curves, instead race right through. Thanks!
