Blog Theme Designs
Thanks to the work of my husband, Robert, I have custom themes for my blog. Robert designs my themes and includes details from my paintings. I am delighted with the results and I hope you enjoy them. Scroll to the bottom of the page to see what painting is featured in the theme.

Still Life with Toy Pony, Design 11 Variation 2, Final Color Version
This is my second variation of design 11, “Still Life with Toy Pony”. In both variations I used only two colors: Prussian Blue and Perinone Orange. My intention was to have the dark background shape continue into the toy pony, much like it does. But, I got into trouble right from the start. I did a fluid acrylic under-painting which acted as more of a resist that usual. My usual layers of glazes just didn’t work. It has it’s own sort of feel about it; many things I like. It’s time to let it go and quick fiddling with it.
If you’d like to see the other variations, click on the page for “Still Life with Toy Pony” and look at the slide show for final color versions.

I love how it seems to glow!
I love your work! Simple design combined into an interesting composition… and my favourite contrasting colours.
It may have turned out different than expected, but I think it was really successful! I love the lights and darks
Hi Leah, Thank you; I was trying to learn how to make the color “glow”, so I’m glad it seems that way to you!
Hi Marcy, Thanks for stopping by. I like contrasting colors; I learn so much from trying to make them work together!
I very much like this new color scheme, the darkness gives it much more drama!
I really like this painting. The abstracted design is strong and flows … the toy pony is almost unrecognizable becomes part of the integration of forms and an important design element. The limited palette was a great choice, and the way you handled the various planes is much like Cezanne’s treatment. This is masterful!
Hi Linda, Thank you! Working this dark has been quite a challenge for me to achieve. I appreciate the support!
Hi Kathy,
Thank you for your generous comments; I appreciate it!
The handling of the various planes was an accident due to the resist effect of the acrylic under-painting. It’s a very light under-painting, but it was enough. The washes that I planned to do just weren’t laying down. The brush would make these partial marks and I had to improvise. At first, I fought it, but then began to like the rhythm the marks set up. It’s perhaps an approach I need to work on some more!
