Moon Goddess – Happy Halloween
.jpg)
It's the "Moon Goddess" annual appearance on this blog. "Moon Goddess" was inspired by the long nosed bats of the Southwest and Mexico. They're plant pollinators. And they are much prettier than the photo on Wikipedia, but at least the information is OK/fine. If you'd like to see some great photos of bats, go to Bat Conservation International and look at their photo gallery. They have a lesser leaf nose bat pollinating a saguaro.
In my college days I had the honor to work with bats in the wild. They are wonderful, beautiful animals. OK, some of them have some pretty bizarre looking faces. But, how do we look to them? Their wings are amazingly soft and elastic. It was a joy working with them.
Speaking of bats, the only time I won a prize in a Halloween costume party was when I dressed up as a brown bat. Anyway, Happy Halloween!
Moon Goddess — Happy National Bat Day
Happy National Bat Day….Ok, I don’t really know if there is a National Bat Day. If there isn’t, there ought to be. And, Halloween would be a good day to chose for such an occasion. So, here is one of my bat works title "Moon Goddess". She’s a lesser long nosed bat and she likes to feed on columnar cactus flower pollen, (see http://www.desertmuseum.org/pollination/bats.php for information on the lesser long nosed bat). The drawing is based on memory of working and studying bats in my college day. The dots allude to the bat as pollinator. Naturally, the cactus in flower at the bottom indicates the close relationship between bat and plant. This particular drawing is done in colored pencil. Maybe one day I’ll make a large version with watercolor or something. Anyway, bats are special and fascinating animals.
