Autumn Wind

"Autumn Wind" was done using one of the designs I drew on our recent trip down to Oregon.  Toward the end of our trip, the winds picked up and with the winds came fire.  When we were at Diamond Lake, up in the Cascades near Crater Lake, we could see a large forest fire over the ridge line.  The trees at Diamond Lake were turning yellow and butterflies were everywhere.  I wanted to express the feeling of the warm winds as they moved through the trees and the threat of fire that followed.  I included one butterfly; like the leaves and trees, it too was vulnerable to the autumn wind and fire.

Spiral Study and Art Every Day Month

Thanks Michelle, for following my blog!  Michelle does interesting mix media work.  I scrolled through her blog and was impressed until I got to the slide show that showed how big they were.  Then I was REALLY impressed!  They must be great to see in person!

I think of life cycles more as life spirals.  I hope I don't come back to the exact same place when I think of personal growth.  I imagine I sometimes come back to where I started, but I'm different and circumstances are changed.  I think of life as evolving and dynamic.

Spirals seem to repeat themselves in my work. I was reminded of their significance as a personal symbol when I read Mary Paquet's blog yesterday talking about making stamps and the meaning behind her symbols.  I think of spirals as one of my favorite art symbols.  I have done a couple of drawings, including this one, where the spiral is the subject and theme.  I may do a few more!  That is inbetween tails and tales of kitties and toy ponies..

Oh yes!  I plan to participate in "Art Every Day Month" again this November.  I participated last year and found it to be fun.  So, I'm game again!  Thanks, Leah, for the idea and for hosting the challenge!
