Thank You: Art Every Day Month & 20 Min Challenge!
Thank You Art Every Day Month!
And, thank you Katharine Cartwright for posting my drawings to “Twenty Minute Challenge!“ I invite you to visit these wonderful sites!
Art Every Day Month:
It is fitting to end November with a MsKitty piece since I started the month with “MsKitty visits Still Life with Toy Pony”. This month I participated in “Art Every Day Month (AEDM)”, with Leah Piken Kollidas Hostess Extraordinaire! Leah is a wonderful hostess and artist. Her kitty series is delightful; she has a knack for catching the gesture and expression of cats. And, she does other exciting pieces, including blobs, female figures…well worth a visit to her blog.
The artist who participate in “Art Every Day Month” are a diverse group. The arts include sculpture, writing, collage, mixed media, altered books…etc! We’re all out there searching, creating, cheering each other along. It was a fun adventure. Thank you!
A word about Katharine Cartwright’s blog and the “Twenty Minute Challenge”: They’re special! Kathy’s blog discusses all sorts of interesting topics on painting, to include books and composition. The Twenty Minute Challenge has postings of twenty minute created pieces of art from a diversity of artists. The work is inspiring!
MsKitty’s Visit to the Lighthouse — D2
I wanted to build on the first version I did of MsKitty goes to the lighthouse. The lighthouse is inspired by our local Grays Harbor Lighthouse. The lighthouse is across the bay; I use a small replica ornament as model. The sea shell is stylized after the types I find on our beaches.
Some thoughts on design: I’m experimenting with repetition as a design element. I’m repeating linear shapes to link the elements of the composition. After seeing the first piece, I wanted a more variation in the violets, going from cool blue/purple to warmer violet/red. I like how the variations of color and shape size play with the feeling of depth.
These are fun little studies. The fun part is having each one generate more ideas. MsKitty’s quest continues, though at a slow pace! I’m adding the previous version of MsKitty at Lighthouse for comparison.
MsKitty Back at the Beach After the Hotel Room
Thank you to Katharine Cartwright for publishing my twenty minute study of the hotel room! Please visit her web and see the other wonderful 20 minute paintings!
MsKitty is glad to be back at the beach after her visit to the hotel room. We were at the hotel only over night. But, it didn’t take long for MsKitty to be lost in the clutter of coffee cups and overnight “stuff”. You can see her below…she’s there.
MsKitty at the beach with two shells is another 20 minute study; the hotel room took a little bit longer. I didn’t time it. Enjoy!
Making a Mark, Twenty Minute Challenge and Art Every Day Month…PHEW!
I’ve was off the net for a little over 24 hours and I feel like I have so much to catching up to do. I’ve found some excellent sites for art bloggers: Making a Mark, Twenty Minute Challenge, and Art Every Day Month. All part of my artist networking experience!
Making a Mark is an artist blogger resource intense site. Artist Ms. Katherine Tyrrell says she “draws and writes about art for artist and art lovers”; and does she ever. On her November 14th posting (How to highlight your exhibition..) she proposes to highlight other “artists who blog AND and who have solo exhibitions of their work, win prizes and/or participate in small group exhibitions.” She will highlight other artist shows on Sunday. What a wonderful gift to the art community. Her site gets lots of traffic. So, fellow art bloggers, if you haven’t already, visit her site. Several of you participate in big shows and win prizes. It would be great to see you highlighted. And, it will be fun to see who she highlights each week.
The Twenty Minute Challenge is a blog hosted by artist Katharine Cartwright. I liked her twenty minute challenge as soon as I read about it. I had one of those “I can do that” moments! It’s similar to my original intent for the little studies I’ve done with Ms. Kitty. My goal is to improve my skills in drawing and brush handling. And it’s fun. Check out her site and try the twenty minute challenge.
I’ve also been participating in Leah’s Piken Kolidas’ Art Every Day Month. I meet lots of different kind of artists who are participating in the challenge. From collage artists to poets and quilt makers, it’s an interesting mix of works. I invite you to go to her blog and see some of the fine works yourself; so much to see! so little time!
With that, the two pieces I’m posting today are my first responses to the 20 minute challenge. They were done Thursday evening in a hotel room in Tacoma. We had to go there for an overnighter… It’s fun trying to work fast! Oh, and MsKitty is present in both studies. See if you can find her. She said she wanted to travel, so she came with us on our short trip!
